South Haven, Michigan

South Haven - South Haven, Michigan, named for its location relative to the city of Grand Haven, is one of Lake Michigan’s best waterfront towns. Located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Black River, South Haven has an abundance of sparkling water and sandy beaches and offers a wide variety of activities year round. The downtown area is a favorite shopping spot, with its unique beach town-like atmosphere, in well-preserved Victorian style architecture. A walk along the waterfront from atop the downtown hill to the old red lighthouse at the end of the pier is a great way to experience this town’s nautical flavor while getting your exercise. Summer time is when it really shines with beach fun, fishing, golfing and shopping or enjoying the Blueberry Festival. South Haven also has a deep water harbor where you can moor your boat and enjoy all that the downtown has to offer.

Kal-Haven trail State park is a beautiful place where you can walk, bike, or hike over bridges and beside streams along this picturesque trail, formerly a railroad line. It starts in South Haven and winds through 33 miles of beautiful woods.

McIntosh Apple Orchards and Cider Mill-Cidermill and Winery. Enjoy a lovely day in the country, visit our orchard, browse through our farm market for fruits, vegetables, gifts, donuts, pastry and fudge. Tour our cidery and see how sweet cider is handcrafted into hard cider. We have u-pick and ready picked tart and sweet cherries, peaches, pears, apples and plums - or just sit out on the porch and relax.

The South Haven lighthouse is over 100 years old and has a one-of-a-kind light keeper's catwalk. The Lighthouse is still an active aid to navigation. The lighthouse is open for public tours, once a year – during HarborFest. The Michigan Maritime Museum was conceived during our nation's Bicentennial celebration to commemorate the rich maritime heritage of the Great Lakes State. It has since developed to become one of the region's most enterprising institutions of maritime research, preservation, and education. Museum facilities include the Padnos Boat Shed and the Lighthouse Keepers Dwelling.
